About

8 Aug 2020

I started the blog in late Mac 2020 when Malaysia had just gone into its lockdown.

At the stage, we were just getting daily reports on the number of cases in the country and there was not much information on the country's strategy for bringing the virus under control.

  • We all understood that the lockdown was to flatten the curve, but there was not much information then about our medical capacity, our contact tracing capabilities, and our testing strategy.
  • The was no mention of Malaysia's epidemiological model.

The blog was a day-to-day analysis based on the Malaysian govt announcements and other readily available public information to make sense of what was happening.

In hindsight, you can appreciate the lack of information when you consider that quite a number of posts were dedicated to my own curve-fitting model to try to forecast our peak infections.

Today we know much more about what is happening and Covid-19 has been brought under control.

Accordingly, the blog has been re-positioned twice

  • from daily posts to publishing 3 times a week
  • from 3 times a week to weekly or fortnightly post that will feature not only Covid-19 but other quality of life issues where more data-based analysis can help us to make sense of the situation

Some of the earlier daily posts may no longer be relevant.

Since all articles posted on the web will live on forever unless specifically "deleted, I am reviewing and updating the posts with a view of

  • Updating and re-publishing the relevant one into new posts.  For these, I am re-directing the old posts to the new ones.
  • Maintaining those evergreen posts, especially those where the conclusions/findings are still relevant.
  • Deleting them unless there are reasons to maintain them for record purposes.

Each reviewed post will be identified with an "Update date" at the top of the post

As part of the review, I classified the posts into one of the following categories

1) Measures - govt action, lockdown, response
2) Medical - all medical aspects
3) Socio-economic - all social-economic impact of the virus
4) Risk - is it safe, impact on safety
5) Misinfo - govt announcements, media reports, opinions
